Lyrics:

Chance doesn't exist
But the path of life is not totally so predestined
Time and chronology show us how all should be
In the ways of existence
To find out why we are here

Being consciousness is a torment
The more we learn is the less we get

No one surveys the whole, focus on things so small
But life's objective is to make it meaningful
Only searching for this
That which doesn't exist
Although our ability to relativize remains unclear

Being consciousness is a torment
The more we learn is the less we get
Every answer contains a new quest
A quest to non existence, a journey with no end

I'm not afraid to die
I'm afraid to be alive without being aware of it

I'm so afraid to, I couldn't stand to
Waste all my energy on things
That do not matter anymore

Our future has already been written by us alone
But we don't grasp the meaning
Of our programmed course of life
We only fear what comes
And smell death every day

Our future has already been wasted by us alone
And we just let it happen and do not worry at all

Our future has already been written by us alone
But we don't grasp the meaning
Of our programmed course of life
We only fear what comes
And smell death every day
Search for the answers that lie beyond

Being consciousness is a torment
The more we learn is the less we get
Every answer contains a new quest
A quest to non existence, a journey with no end

Opinions?

I love Sensorium. The lyrics are genius, and the whole song just makes me wanna sing and headbang at the moments. Actually it's one of my fav Epica songs to sing. And I love the way it sounds live.

"Being consciousness is a torment

i really love these lyrics..
the thing i love about sensorium is that it is a really fast powerfull song. the best 2nd song on a setlist (1st as intro). but since they are playing resign to surrender, i think they lost their interest in sensorium..

another thing i love about it that simone singing almost wrong in We will take you with us...

oh and i don't know if you know about it but once read on the epica.nl forum that, as Ad said, they recorded Sensorium twice and used video 1 but audio 2. that is why there is a lipsync of Simone and everybody thinks that this DVD is fake. well it's not, they played it and you don't have to believe it.

I have to agree with you, guys, that the lyrics to "Sensorium" are indeed among the best ones Mark has ever written. They're very sophisticated and complex; genius, as well. It's a human instinct to always want to know more, achieve more, etc. I think that's one of the main points in the lyrics. I don't think I can fully grasp the meaning of "Sensorium" but lyrically speaking, it's definitely another masterpiece created by Mark Jansen! Musically, it reminds me a lot of Nightwish's "Oceanborn" . The keyboards' parts are similar to the ones on some "Oceanborn" tracks. That may be the main reason why I've found such similarities between Epica and NW.

Reading ther lyrics again I realize that this song is also one of my favorite lyric-wise.Musically,however it's still one of my least faves from TPA Razz

And Elodie, yes there might be similarities between the keyboard parts from 'Sensorium" and the ones from NW's 'Oceanborn' but still it's a whole different story. We know that Mark and Simone are NW fans and 'Oceanborn' is one of their fave albums,so at that time they inspired from that. But I don't really remember if Coen likes NW or not,as he wrote the keyboard parts if I'm not mistaken? Eighter way,NW is NW and EPICA is EPICA Sensorium Icon_wink

Oh and I don't rember what 'Sesorium' means Razz I know it's a latin word and it means something related to 'Consciousness'' or it was 'consciousness' itself Razz .Help, anyone?

That's a good question, my dear. Smile

Let's see:

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/sensorium
http://thinkexist.com/dictionary/meaning/sensorium/

I don't know how to explain it all by myself. Laughing

Otherwise, I didn't mean to compare NW to Epica or something because they indeed are way different from each other. I do differentiate them - it's just that I've found some similarities between these two bands (especially on TPA) . Wink

Thanks for the dictionaries,Elodie, that's really helpful. And yes, iit's consciousness after all Razz

And I know you didnt comapre them, but yes there might be some influences on TPA(like Simone's vocals for example:more deep and classical,we all now that Tarja is one of her fave singers so it might have influenced her,but later she devoloped her own style and technique Smile ) But otherwise I think TPA is a very original album Smile
