Epica's Genre?

I found it quite impossible with all the elements they have
So far i have spotted atleast

Power
Symphonic
Death
Black
Progressive
Melodic

You cant put them to just one category haha

Of course you can't That's why they are one of the most complex metal bands ever But I think Symphonic is the one they used the most thought.

Of course you can't put them into one category. Epica is a sophistiacted band, and all the elements they use in their music make them perfect to me.

It feels like DYU will sound like Melodic Death Metal!

SYMPHONIC death metal would be better haha, with elements of prog, melodic, black etc.

haha....well,as for DYU,the most short would maybe be "progressive symphonic metal" but we all know there is some death,black and power metal

I've noticed all the other metal genres in Epica,but I don't get why power metal(am I deaf or something?).Can someone clear my mind please?

yup there is some gothic also,i'd say.

Symphonic:Kinda everyting xD.But TPA and CTO are the most symphonic ones(in melodic terms,that meaning less heavy)
Progressive:Most from TDC and DYU
Black:Chasing The Dragon(blastbeats),Death Of A Dream,and some elemnts on the TDC title-track.
Death:Mostly from DYU:Martyr Of The Free Word,Kingdom Of Heaven(certain parts),Semblance Of Liberty etc.
Melodic:The ballads,but that was obvious

But I kinda suck at recognizing genres so I might be wrong

it would rather be "symphonic" than "classical",althought a lot of people find those two just the same.
But there also are some black metal elements...and some gothic atmosphere

Yeah well true, there isn't that big difference between symphonic and classical, we're talking about the same thing which is important!
As I've understood, symphonic can be like only synthesizer rolling on when again on classical they include the orchestra instruments aswell.

What goes to black metal elements, I wouldn't exactly include it myself Black metal is pretty much very dark with very dark lyrics. As far as I know, the lyrics makes it
black. Epica has in my opinion decently neutral lyrics even when they're often criticizing religions. They could make it a lot more straight so it'd be easier to interpret them
as insults. They don't which is nice. I really like their style, it's just criticizing. I'm an atheist myself and I try to be as tolerant as possible when talking about religions. I could
write a lot about the idea of religions. I've been talking with many of friends of mine who couldn't understand them at all, but after chatting for a while they really got it
and agreed my points. Of course some religions push their "members" to war etc. and it's just wrong.

Like Mark once said (something like this): "Believe to it or don't believe, but if you do something for the religion and you have no clue what for, you're an idiot. Don't be blind!"

Hm, at the moment many ppl would say "what does it matter??", but I don't know why it's always interesting to analyse genres
Are you sure about it? I've heard black metal gospel which is basically white metal, not black anymore. It sounds exactly the same as black metal, because the music is the same, but lyrics are different. Obviously can't usually divide the words.

Genres are such bitch, i love the analyzing too but normally in the end i piss somebody off badly

But i don't find symphonic as just the synth rolling on...cuz symphonic pretty much reminds of the word symphony xD which is a very complexed orchestral composition.Containing the whole orchestra xD
But,yeah,pretty similar meaning between classicall and symphonic,so it's okay.
