Lyrics:
Follow your common sense
You cannot hide yourself
behind a fairytale forever and ever
Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose
The soul of this bulwark forever and ever
Forever and ever

Indoctrinated minds so very often
Contain sick thoughts
And commit most of the evil they preach against

Don't try to convince me with messages from God
You accuse us of sins committed by yourselves
It's easy to condemn without looking in the mirror
Behind the scenes opens reality

Eternal silence cries out for justice
Forgiveness is not for sale
Nor is the will to forget

Follow your common sense
You cannot hide yourself
behind a fairytale forever and ever
Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose
The soul of this bulwark forever and ever

Virginity has been stolen at very young ages
And the extinguisher loses it's immunity
Morbid abuse of power in the garden of eden
Where the apple gets a youthful face

Eternal silence cries out for justice
Forgiveness is not for sale
Nor is the will to forget

Follow your common sense
You cannot hide yourself
behind a fairytale forever and ever
Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose
The soul of this bulwark forever and ever
Forever and ever

Eternal silence cries out for justice
Forgiveness is not for sale
Nor is the will to forget

You can't go on hiding yourself
Behind old fashioned fairytales
And keep washing your hands in innocence

Please tell me if there are mistakes on the lyrics because I usually do Laughing

Opinions,please? Smile

I can't do anything but love this song, and it's very special for me as it was my very first Epica song which hooked me from the very beginning. What I love the most at it:the lyrics.Simply one of the best Mark ever wrote and probably one of the best lyrics ever Smile Mark's grunts are really great here in fact I like them more than Simone's vocals in this song Laughing In my opinion this one is the best song from The Phantom Agony Very Happy

Aww, my first Epica song too. Totally love it, and it's one of the best. Amazing lyrics, which I can read in personal way as well, and that makes this song even more special to me. Never get bored of it!

My first Epica song, and my favorite one overall.

The lyrics have a personal meaning to me, so I guess that's why it's stayed my favorite.

Both "The Phantom Agony" and "Cry For The Moon" were probably my first Epia songs. I don't exactly feel connected with the lyrics of "Cry For The Moon" . It's just that they do match with my thoughts of Christianity and its evil effect on mankind. I just hate it when the Church (as an institution) does their very best to conquer as many minds as they could through their lies and senseless ideology. It's good to have faith but I just don't believe in THEIR God, neither am I pious. And what if I say that I have many Gods, including Mark himself? Razz I love that guy, the lyrics he writes and the music he creates, as well! I love you

The instrumental of the song has always made me feel weird. I don't know how to describe this feeling but I guess Dragana understands me, too. Very Happy On the one hand, a feeling of restlessness gets into the song, but on the other one the music makes you feel so calm... Afterwards come the dynamic, aggressive parts which make you feel angry as hell (maybe at all those fools ;D ) and they're alternating with the calm ones. Such contrivances are often being used in Nightwish's discography, for instance. This is a good way to create and ease tension.

But I still don't get it - why is this song called "Cry For The Moon" ? ...

Because the moon refers to heaven. Or at least you know they say heaven is up there.
So people where crying to be in heaven if they die. Religion was in that time such an important thing in human life. Some people where abusing it, such as the church as an institution. They are like convincing people that they have to pay a sum of money to get in heaven and forgive their sins, abusing the power of the Christian religion. So the result is lots of people cry because they don't have the money so they start to believe they can't be in heaven.

In my opinion Mark wrote the song from the eyes of the people.

oh btw excuse me for any mistakes, I just woke up.... edit: I just realised that this is where I relate to with only 1 part of the song. But it should give an impression of how it could be named like that.

Oh, I see... I knew about all those fees and stuff but I wasn't informed about the relation between Moon and Christianity. Thanks very much for clarifying it to me, Bram. Smile

Well just the way I was thinking about any possible explanation. I had never asked myself that question, I guess it felt pretty natural to me. But I guess now I know why it felt natural to me.

Anyway this topic remembers me to cover CFTM on keyboard and put it on youtube =]

Actually cry for the moon means to desire the unattainable.
And so for me it refers to the ones with indoctrinated minds that so very often
contain sick thoughts
. They can lie to themselves and others, but just can't and won't reach heaven.
